Winter Driving

I'm looking into picking up an S2000 as a daily driver for northeast Ohio. I know the car is a powerful, RWD sports car...but I was wondering if any of you have experience driving it in snow. I'd definately be putting snow tires on it. I was contemplating a G35 as well - it's a little heavier, possibly a bit better in the winter. Any feedback would be most appreciated. Thanks.

If you do a search, you can find a lot of information on this topic. As for my advice, after growing up in Ohio and living there until last month, I opted to put the s2k in the garage through winter, and not even try to drive it. If you do try to drive it, definetly get snow tires, and go very slow. My friend has a G35. He drove it last year through winter, but decided he will buy another car for the winter also because it was very sketchy on the snow and ice. If you can afford it, and really want a G35, go for the 4wd. Decide which car you like better, and get that one, and seriously look into getting another beater.

Thanks for the frank answer. I've got a '97 A6 Quattro...if I find some cheap garage space, I'll just try and use that as my 'beater.' At least this will save me the 3.2k on the hardtop. On a sidenote - has anyone driven the '03 and the '04 back-to-back? How much of a difference did that 0.2 liters make? I might just grab an '03 instead of the '05.

where about NE ohio do you live? there are a bunch of us in the area...and none of us drive our S in the winter  with winter tires it can be done but not really worth it

I never realized that so many wimps lived in Ohio!

I live in Chicagoland and provided that you get a good set of snow tires or all seasons (I have Pirelli Zero Nero M+S) the S handles just fine in snow and ice.

I drove it every day last winter and never had a problem.

I live in the lovely winter wonderland of Cleveland. I'll be driving mostly from downtown to University Circle...meaning I'll be on major roads or the highway for almost all of my driving. The only problem is, I might be on the roads at about 5AM - don't know how clean the roads are that early...they normally do a decent job though. I was just a little concerned with the lightweight, RWD car. If you can do it in Wisconsin/Chicago, I suppose C-town is possible.

I live in Columbus and will be driving my new 05 this winter with snow tires. I drove last winter in an 04 RX-8 (roughly equal powered RWD) with Blizzaks and had no problems.
