Wondering if this product is made....
Hey-
I had a 3 piece hard fiberglass boot for my fist car ('91 Miata). I was wondering if anyone made something like this for the S2000? It would be cool because it could be painted to match the car, and storage of the Miata one was a piece of cake....fit in the trunk with no problem (as opposed to the current boot to the S2K). thanks john |
Check the Veilside tonneau cover;but it sure won't fit in the trunk. :D
|
racing beat makes this one for the Miata.
http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmiata.htm Is there anyone on this web board that is capable fo making something like this? |
Moderator, please combine this thread with the one entitled "Hard boot cover...." It is a better title.
|
bump, that would be a great idea, ive wanted a hard tonneau cover, but have procrastinated becasue i would be scared to use it on anything but short trips, but if sombody made a 3 piece one similar to the one in the link above for the miata that would fit in the trunk, id be all over it.

I've been taking measurements to see if I could work out an automatic 3-piece cover that stows in the open space under the top when the top is up.
Of course, what I'd rather have is a retractable hardtop... I have a co-worker who is working on laying composites (to build a plane). If I end up with a design that can work, I'll work on fabricating a prototype and get back to the board. This will, in all likelihood, take all summer. |
You know what? That Racing Beat cover rocks.
Why do we only have the crazy-huge Veilside thing? I might just work on fabbing a 3-piece cover that can take advantage of the factory attachment nubs and go from there... |
the veilside is mainly for show....you know..."LOOK AT ME!!!" I am a more low-key person. I want something that is clean and simple looking. That boot for my Miata was the best money I spent on that car. It was clean, easy to use, and stored easily.
The only thing that might hinder something like this on the S2000 is that I don't think the top retracts to level with the outer weather strip. Another thing, the Miata soft boot was secured UNDER the rear weather stripping on the outside (ours in on the inside). The fiberglass boot used this same sealing to attach the fiberglass one. Dunno if its possible on our cars. If there is something, and someone comes out with it, as long as its similarly priced to the Racing Beat one, I am in. Cant be more than $300, because it still has to be painted. thanks John ps- Wouldnt the fastest production method be to make a 3-D mold of the outter dimensions, and just fill the mold with Polyurethane / fiberglass, then crack apart the mold? I would think this would be the most efficient method, rather than custom fabing all of them. |
Chaboud-
let me know if you come up with anything...people on this board would go NUTS for something like that....especially is the price is right. |
i guess no one really does fiberglass work on this board?
