With 13k miles I wonder if I should look into this come spring.

Is there something that causes the exhaust valves to get tight that can be fixed?

I should probably get mine done again soon, FISH did them around 75k and found the exhausts were tight, coming up on 110k now and wondering if we'll find them tight again.

True. I have a handful of track days this year so probably would be a good idea.

Is it necessary at 13k? I could check with a local person, I just don't know if id necessarily trust them.

At 13k, you wont find anything alarming per say, but it is surely enough mileage to determine which direction the valves are heading.

If we were to find some exhaust valves at .0095 now, they are the ones heading in the tight direction.

A lot happens in the first 10k-15k. After that the process slows.

So yes it is a good idea, and you will be safe for another 60k or so.

Add another data point for my car. Thank you for creating this thread! I really hope my engine is okay. 5 out of my 8 exhaust valves were tighter than spec, with 4 being way tighter than spec. All the intakes were okay.

My engine runs a lot smoother after the valve adjustment. The low rpm hesitation that is commonly associated w/ the DBW cars has been reduced significantly.

a number of folks said don't (adjust them) unless there is an issue
That is very ignorant of them to say, don't ever listen those folks.

Rest assured that waiting until there is an issue means that a valve has already been torched.

With your car at 42k miles and the exhaust valves at .007, expect them to be torched around 65k miles if not sooner. So good job.

You said you found a couple of intakes loose, and that is what you will find on all s2ks that have never been adjusted. So that's a good indicator that you measured precisely.

You have more miles than mine and your valves were tight also but not as tight as mine were. I wonder if mine would have been like yours if I had not touched them. Not sure how you can tell if the valves have been torched with it running just fine. Mine was an 09 stock.

Bill if you did my valves last year in Marion should I get them checked again. When you did them the exhaust side was tight. I do put a lot of miles on the car with some autocrossing along the way. Getting ready to turn 100K on the car. Thanks David
