Default ** Need Help. Car shifts hard and notchy. **

Need some help. I was at the autocross track today making some practice laps. I was downshifting under braking ( heel toe ) from second to first in a tight section ( I was going the propper speed to acomplish this ) and it would not go into gear. Felt like I was pushing against a wall. Immediatly after I noticed that it was extremely notchy shifting into every gear. The car wont downshift from 3 - 2.

I went home and changed my tranny fluid and flushed my clutch fluid. The problem is still there.

While driving I can press the clutch all the way in and rev the car while coasting in second gear. The car lightly surges forward like the clutch is still trying to engage. Also when I come to a stop, I can leave the car in 2nd gear with the clutch pressed in and cars drive train shutters like the clutch is still somewhat trying to engage.

Im on the fence of a bent shift fork or something else.

Any help is appreciated.

UPDATE: RESPONSE POSTED ON JULY 15, 2009

Ok gonna pull this thread outta retirement. I am just not getting around to putting the car back together. I have bought a new clutch, pressure plate, and all bearings but have one quick question. I havent cracked the tranny open for fear that I wont be able to get everything back in like its supposed to. The transmission is on the ground and I can easily shift from gear to gear. Up and down and everything feels normal. Is it safe to say that the clutch was the culprit? I just need someone to help me weigh the possibility.

Did you check for some leaking clutch hydraulics?

You may have broken a clutch disc which wont let the clutch disengage. The metal surrounding the springs in the clutch hub has been known to break, keeping the clutch partially engaged.

Hmmm. I can still start off in first gear fine. Like normal. If what you say happened would this still be possible? The clutch feels no different than before. It grabs hard. Just when Im coasting in second, with the clutch depressed, reving the car the light surge and I mean LIGHT occurs.

Possible, it's hard to diagnose on the intrawebz..
If a shift fork or syncho is hosed the trans has to come out. If the clutch is broken the trans has to come out. You see where I'm going with this?

I'd be hoping to find a broken clutch disc

Ok so I am dropping the transmission in my car today. I get underneath to take the clutch slave cylinder off and expose my clutch release fork. There is a lot of play in it. I have at least 1" of play. How much play should I have in this?

Thanks.
