06+ DBW throttle wire adjustment

This may alleviate all the comments about lag in the drive by wire system introduced in the MY06's. I was wondering what was in that black box on the driver side so I popped it open and tadaa:

There was actually quite a bit of slack in the wire, just as in the throttle cable of the good ole pre-MY06's and B-series engines.

Simple procedure:

1. Undo 10mm bolts A and B to open the black box.
2. Feel slack by pushing down with finger at E.
3. Hold the whole contraption with one hand and undo 12mm bolt C.
4. Turn bolt D so that it tightens the wire.
5. Tighten bolt C again.
6. Test slack at point E again but make sure you tighten so that the swivel is closed at rest. You want to be just a bit on the loose side.
7. Put the black box on again with the 10mm bolts and you're done.

You should experience a slight improvement as the throttle will feel tigher.

This is pretty vague and could be misconstrued by others to mean different things. I'm sure the '06 service manual will have something in specific terms like it does for previous models when adjusting the slack on the throttle cable. For those, it's 1/4". You might want to find out what the actual number is before others go and adjust it to something it's not supposed to be.

hmm im new to s2k but coming from VW mk4 gti application i assumed DBW meant no throttle cable at all? mine is all electronically controlled. if this is the case with the s2k why ist here any cable to adjust?

Drive by "Wire" only means that there is no direct linkage between the gas pedal and the throttle plate. A computer intervenes. A solenoid actually moves the throttle plate. How that solenoid is connected to the plate can vary from one manufacturer to another. It can be by cable, rod or direct attachment.

I can't notice a difference at all in lag and I didn't even know about this. I thought the same as bronfufu that there were no cables whatsoever.

I might try this just to see if there really is a difference. Like most "free" mods you'd be hard pressed to acually tell if you did anything at all.

Here is a picture of the throttle body with its "DBW" solenoid mounted right on the side:

Here is a pic of the "accelerator pedal sensor" (which looks more like what's pictured above):

That is the cruise control not the DBW system .

Adjusting it will have no effect on the response .

This was not me posting but one of my guys thought he would be smart :banghead:

Sorry Boofster and xviper , I will make sure I log out this time :banghead:
