I changed my oil at 100 miles with Mobil One. Then I changed it again at 200 with the same thing. Then again at 400, 800 and 1600. I like to get all the machining out of my engines. I run exclusively Mobil One 10-30, and burn zero oil between 2000 mile oil changes. There are no magical additives in the "special Honda break-in oil". Including moly! Either oil control rings seat or they don't. Oil won't seal them. Ask an engineer.

I changed my filter ONLY at 1875 miles (just this Friday). Easy to do from above the car, and there is just a few ounces that drip in the pan. Added .3 qt to top off, half of which went directly in the filter to pre-lube it. I did this in my dress work clothes Bottom line, I heard a good suggestion here to change the filter only and leave the break-in oil alone. Just so happens when I got around to it, it was exactly half the first oil change interval!
I only expect to put 7500 miles on a year, so at 3750 I will change both the filter and oil (using conventional). Then at 1 year I will switch to synthetic probably and continue on at 3750 intervals for both oil and filter.
9906, do you DRINK the oil or what?

I just did what the manual said. Did my first oil change at 4500, or whatever they said for the seating of the rings (bunk or not, I don't know). After that, every 3000 miles with Mobil 1. Car runs great, doesn't seem to burn oil.
I guess that's a far cry from every 100ft, or whatever 9906 does.
Hey, BMW has really backlashed against this oil-change thing. The interval for bimmers is now between 10 and 15 thousand miles. There is a dashboard indicator that tells you when you need service. I check the oil in our 525 every now and again. It's got 9000 miles, on the original oil, and it looks good. Good color, little cloudiness. I think we changed the oil once in the three years we had our 328. That's factory procedure!

WHOA Don't do it yet!!!!! The oil in the engine from the factory has special additives for breaking in the engine. This "Break in" oil should not be replaced until the first scheduled oil change in the manual.

So when are we suppose to change the oil? i have about 5078 miles on it, and the oil looks fine. good level, no leakage. I was going to wait until 7500 but i might just do it myself first, and go do the schedule oil change at 7500. Is it bad to wait that long?
I know when i first got my accord, they said to bring it back at 1000 to do an oil change. is it different in the s?

Yeah it's different for the S. There was a big discussion about this over a year ago. I believe the consensus was change the oil at 3,450. I did not find this out, until after I changed mine at 1,000 miles. Try a search of the under the hood forum.

"There are no magical additives in the "special Honda break-in oil". Including moly!" Per the Blackstone Labs analysis on my first oil change, that's just not true.
There are elevated levels of moly in the factory fill oil. It's either a special oil, or it may be from assembly lube used to build the engine. Either way there was a significant difference in the moly levels between my first and second oil changes. BTW my first oil change was at 3752 miles, molybdenum level was 574 ppm.
Comment from Blackstone was, "The molybdenum is an oil additive." The molybdenum level on my second oil change at 7740 miles was 138 ppm. I used regular Mobil Drive Clean 10W-30 dino oil for both of these oil changes. (Supposedly Honda motor oil is is just re-packaged Mobil dino oil.) My third oil change at 10705 miles was to Mobil 1 synthetic oil. The moly level on the changed oil was down to 20 ppm.
My car has seen several track days and to date over the ~15000 miles on the car, I have added maybe 1 quart of oil.
I also changed the differential and gear box oil with the Honda fluids at my second oil change. I can't explain it but the car seemed to run smoother on the road as a result of this fluid change. I thought I had a tire balance problem at above 80 mph, but changing the gear box and differential fluids seemed to smooth this out, and I did not have the tires balanced.
Oh, 15000 miles, time to change the oil again. I think I'll do the gear box and differential at a every second oil change interval.
Sorry for the long post, but I thought others might want to know what actual lab results show. If you want you can do a search on Blackstone and find the complete analysis of a few oil changes as posted by me and others.
