75w90 + 75W140 ok for differential
 

I am going to change my rear diff fluid this weekend. I wanted to run 75W110 Amsoil, but the local shop only has 75W90 and 140. I am thinking of just going 50/50 with the two any thoughts? My gut is kinda saying this could be a bad idea, since cool they will be the same viscosity, but heated there may be some separation of the two weights? Although I swear I have read of people doing this

The car is driven hard on the street and will be tracked/autoxed, would there be any harm/noticeable effects of going with the 75w140? I was thinking giving the hard driving, thicker than 90 would be better.

Go to another shop, order it inline or wait until the shop restocks. Be patient, I wouldn't mix fluids. That's kind of like mixing whiskeys...

Yeah the car is just sitting in storage anyway. I really do think 110 is the way to go or LE, both of which I think I will need to order

140 works just fine, I used to use Amsoil 110 then switched to 140 because I saw that 90 wasn't really recommended any more, and didn't want to sit and wait for amsoil. I could find 75w140 redline locally and just went with it. Works fine, no excessive metal on the drain plug no noises. Best thing you can do is pick a fluid and stick to it, and change fluid once a year.

LE is very difficult to flush completely (apparently from what I've been reading around here).

I hightly doubt the w90 will do any harm either, but it might shear a bit quicker, so a early change you might be required.

I don't see any harm in mixing either. They are the same brands, I assume similar additives, I don't for see any incompatibility.

You don't think there will be any separation at temp due to the difference in weights?

The larger Amsoil dealers carry 75-90,75-110&75-140.It's a common item.

There are more Amsoil dealers than there are insects in the world thanks to their marketing structure :), it should be very easy to find or order on-line. When it comes to the differential, thicker is better. The sump capacity of the diff is very small and it needs all the protection it can get.

I've had amazing results from LE1605 which is SAE110. I have used Amsoil 75w110 and Amsoil 75w140. The previous owner of my car used Redline 75w90, which I think is going in the wrong direction away from the SAE90 of the original spec in 1999. With todays revised fluid classification the old SAE90 is closer to 110 than it is to 90.
