Amsoil oill filter ?
 

Almost a monrh ago I changed oil and filter. During a routine under the hood inspection a couple of days ago, I discovered that the filter was very slightly leaking. I had never noticed a drop on the ground so the best description might be an ooze that slightly covers the filter itself. I tightened this filter down way beyond any filter I had previously and rechecked it after a few minutes of warm-up. It didn't do any good because as soon as the car was cool enough , I put my hand on the filter and it appearently was still leaking. Strange because I'm sure I have used this same Amsoil filter before in previous changes. The Amsoil filter part# is the correct part. I replaced this filter with the Honda OEM filter and all's well. Visually inspectig both filters the gasket system of the Amsoil is different than OEM. Amsoil is an outboard and OEM is quite a bit further inboard. Not sure what difference this makes, but it is the only explaination I have at the moment for the leak.
So, I have one question- Has anyone noted a leak using a Amsoil oil filter?

you might have had a small knick on the gasket that you couldnt see...but i always use OE oil filters anyway...i dont trust too many aftermarket oil filters

no leaks on my amsoil filter for 8 months now. Just about due for a fresh change though.

8000 miles on mine and no leaks so far.

Did you apply oil to gaskt? Try to retighten after a run, or note any deformation or extra material on the gasket? Possible to overtorque? Is the gasket riding on a surface not designed to hold a gasket? Re examine the filter.

Yes the gasket was lubed. I could only compare visually the OEM against the removed Amsoil and (as noted)the difference in design. I did feel around the mounting surface on the block to maybe find an old piece of gasket that may have been left behind during my last change.Maybe the filter was dropped and slightly warped the mounting surface but did not show signs of this but still possible.

I never had an issue with any Amsoil filter I have used, maybe it was mistakenly damaged durning install :confused:

Yes, or damaged between the mfg and diastriuter or retailer. I don't recall dropping it but ,that is also possible.
