Any harm with 6qts of oil?

Is there any harm in running 6qts of oil in the S? I have gotten into the habbit of filling 6qts of oil with each change after the addition of the s/c. I figured the extra line/blower would require a little extra but lately I've noticed that dipstick reads above the top line. Am I alright?

Your fine unless you see oil bubbling out when the engine is hot. I've ran about 6qts without any problems.

Isn't factory spec a little over 4 quarts? If so i'd say 2 whole quarts over is pushing it, you can push the seals out with too much oil. I'd say half a quart up to maybe 1 quart max is about all I would overfill even if you autocross and are afraid of starvation. Do you have a centrifugal supercharger that shares oil with the motor? I know roots and twin screw blowers are self lubricating.

My M3 takes 8 quarts but I usually run about 9 since I autocross it frequently.

I always use 5.25 quarts, but im N/A, so 6 might be OK considering..

No. Per the manual, the oil change with filter is 5.1 qt. (4.8L) on 2.0 liter engine; however, most owners will tell you it takes 5.5 qt. Off hand, I don't know what the spec is for the 2.2 liter.

Dont run more then whats required supercharged or not. (4.8-5.1L).
Too much oil can make the crankshaft splash into the oil especially when cornering. The crank can airate the oil and as well you can damage the
catalytic converter with too much oil in the pan.

i always use 6 quarts. i little to prime the oil filter and the rest goes in the oil fill hole. never had a problem and i have 78k miles.

I just changed my oil like 10 mins ago. I used about 5.5 qts. Just to make sure, were supposed to check the oil while its warm correct?

depending on how long I let the oil drain, I could see 6qts. being fine with an extra line leading to and from the SC. Typically I take at least 5.5qts. Sometimes, letting it drain for an extra 1/2 hour or so, I'll need 5.75 to be normal.

Use 6, just let it drain longer...I'm sure you'll be just at or barely over the line with the SC

To get the best reading I recommend cold, or at least waiting for a few minutes for all the oil in a warm engine to settle into the pan.
