do you have a build thread?

I don't have one, but I should.

You misunderstood my words. I do know what happens when ring ends meet each other but filing rings is a common task and has been done successfully for years. I am a bit skeptical about coatings though and their durability for street engines although I would love to try them

ah, I agree. I put swaintech coatings on the skirts of my CP pistons, supposedly they are .0015" thick... my PTW is set at .0035. If those coatings wear off ill surely know it with a .005" ptw, it would slap like hell. Motor doesnt even have 1k miles on it yet though. Time will tell

So you opted for 0.0035" clearance also measuring coating thickness? I am not into coatings a lot but I thought that coatings actually work the other way around: i.e take a CP piston for example, set clearance at 0.0035" and then coat the piston, subtracting the 0.0015" coating thickness. So finally, you have a 0.0020" piston-2-wall or more precisely coating-to-wall clearance.

This coating is designed to be a lifetime coating. Some people have had issues in the past of scuffing skirts with aftermarket pistons in the .003" range and I wanted to eliminate the chance of that happening. This way I can use the coating as a buffer. This motor will be in the 800hp range.
