AP1 motor clacking noise at 3-4k rpm...not TCT..increasing oil consumption
So my year 2000 AP1 with 88k on the odo developed a clacking noise that sounds like it's coming from the front of the motor when revving between 3-4000 RPM. I took it to the independent Honda specialist (the guy drives a spa yellow AP1) and he said it sounded like the TCT. After doing some research here it sounded like the ticket. Ordered and installed a new replacement, still have the noise. I've also noticed the oil consumption has accelerated and is to the point where small white clouds of smoke waft out of the tail pipes at idle, and is quite smelly. Starting to get pretty concerned about my motor....
Has anyone had a similar problem? It doesn't sound like rod knock because its only loud between 3 and 4, and runs pretty well otherwise. I'm thinking maybe it needs a valve adjustment? A compression and leakdown test is also in the plan. What you guys think? Have any suggestions?
