ap2 differential in ap1. will it work?
Dont get on me for not using the search button because i did and it did nothing but confused me. I read everything from getting new bolts from home depot to changing out the transmission. So heres the thing, i blew out my diff in my MY00 ap1 and i can get a MY06 ap2 diff. Now my question is what is the simpelest way to make it work? Will it bolt up in place? Do i need to put an ap1 flange on it or can i just use ap2 bolts? Also will it work the same since the ap2s have traction control and the ap1s dont? Also please no responses from people guessing or going off by what they've heard. Im looking to get answers by someone who has done it them selves or know someone who did it. Any help will be great.

it will work just swap out the flange for a ap1, vsa will not affect anything.
|
Is it difficult to swap out the flange? I was reading that its not that simple because its torqued to spec or something? I dont want to mess up another differential.. from my understanding its just that an ap2 flange uses 8mm bolts instead of 10mm like the ap1. can i get away with just using ap2 bolts?

bump. can anyone help me?
|
no unbolt and pull off the end :)

It is not that easy.
Disturbing the pinion nut will disturb the wear pattern. If you are not critical on the torque, the dif will whine and wear out early. Unless you are a proficient dif builder, I would recommend ap2 shaft, bolts, and trans flange instead. |
really? I changed it to ap1 and just TQed it to OEM spec no whine or issues YET haha
I've gotta start asking you before I change anything on the car billman haha |
Do they affect the gear ratios?
Is the AP2 diff gear size the same as AP1? |
Same ratio diff tranny is different

Lopez, Did you end up doing the swap? and how did it turn out.
My Diff is seriously clunking and making a crap load of noise. just sounds brutal compared to my friends ap2. I also have a question, Should I rebuild my current ap1 diff, or upgrade to a Ap2? If i was to rebuild my Ap1 diff: Would i need to just replace the final gear and the LSD? or what else does it consist of internally? Still a noob when it comes to diffs (Former FWD Track driver) |
