One thing that puzzles me is that having read all the DIY's there is no mention of using any wheel bearing grease
Where would you use grease? The bearings come greased and you don't separate the bearings to install.

what I was thinking was the OEM bearings have a metal seal one side and nothing the other side, they are open and you can see the roller bearings ! am I right or being a muppet ?

The OEM bearing had nothing exposed when installed on mine. Removing it required separating the inner and out races, but until then they're a sealed unit.

You took a used hub/spindle apart and it looked like that because one bearing half seperated.

New ones are sealed. No bearing grease is added. Externally greasing can attract junk to stick to the bearing race, infact.

One would add a tiny bit of anti-sieze or grease to the axle spline to prevent future sticking, and maybe to the axle thread/face for a more accurate torque/tension value for the axle nut and/or increased clamp load per torque for the axle nut.

Not to the bearing race though.

How did you get on with these ? any news....
I'm pretty sure I need a pair of these so just wanted to hear your opinion before I order them

Just to bump this thread with a quick update.
Just fitted new rear Dorman Hubs and Timken wheel bearings. All fitted perfectly. I only changed mine as I had some run out on my old rear hubs. Not driven the car yet (winter) but have measured the run out with a dial gauge and it is zero.
So whilst I can't comment on longevity the fit is spot on.
