I'm planning on swapping an AP2 subframe into my MY00. The car has 78k miles including about 25 track days so far and plans to do about 15 per year going forward. I don't have issues with vibration at the moment. Most of the track days were done with the stock suspension but the car is now lowered about 1". Did lowering it move the bearing in the cup enough that it's now on a "clean surface"? From the pictures of the wear, it looks like the axle would have to move about 3/8" outward to completely avoid the wear spot. I'm skeptical that lowering an inch moved it outward that much.

Given I'll have the shaft out anyway, now would be the time to do this. But I'd rather leave it alone if there's no need.

Thoughts?

So it's looking like I need to swap my axles around. I read through a bit of this thread, not the entire thing, but am trying to find the easiest way. Billman said remove axle nut, abs sensor, lower ball joint, remove buckets, swap, call it a day. My question is do we actually have to remove the axle nut? I don't have a 36 mm socket and broke a breaker bar doing the TSB on my last car. This one had the nuts tightened by a shop. What is the minimal removal way to swap the buckets? I'm hoping that popping the ball joint but leaving the axle in the knuckle may allow enough travel to get the axle out of the bucket.

I don't think there is any way around removing the axle nut. Theoretically you could drop the diff but it still might not be able to provider enough clearance to remove the CV buckets.

Buy a 36mm socket and an impact gun or buy a 3/4" breaker bar. You will break half 1/2" breaker bars doing the axle nut TSB.
