Bad oil pump? with pictures
I have recently been rebuilding a 2000 s2000 I bought from a friend not too long ago with 180k miles on it. Head had starved from oil due to front allen bolt coming loose. I checked the block and bearings and it all looked good. Got a used head i just had rebuilt, bought new timing chain, seals, gaskets, etc. Taking the chance with the block and hope it all works well. Today i dropped the oil pump to inspect it and see if I need to buy a new one. The gear shaft has some play going in and out, and opened it up and saw a lot of scoring. It turned freely but wasnt smooth and would get stuck if pushed in from the play. My guess is this oil pump is trashed? Would a bad oil pump cause that allen bolt to snap and skip timing?
