Billman’s P1457 DIY
#32
Hey Billman,
Thanks for this incredibly helpful info. My car recently threw a P0497 EVAP Emission System Low Purge Flow.
I took it to the dealer this morning, and after a 118 dollar diagnostic they told me "the evap vent shut valve is not holding a vacuum" and I think I remember them saying they are going to replace the 2 way valve.
They quoted me a total of $335 for the work. I would love if I could order the parts and do it myself.
A few questions:
Is it safe to continue driving the car like it is? (If I do the work myself it may have to wait until the weekend)
Is it relatively easy to replace the 2way valve and bypass solenoid?
Thanks for all your help.

My p1457 has gone off twice now, once last month, and the dealership changed out the bypass solenoid, and then 3000 miles later, the CEL has come back on. The dealership just called, saying the TSB 003-01 for the S2000 recommends CHANGING THE ECU DUE TO CORROSION??? They've quoted me 800 bucks parts and labor, but that seems awfully far fetched. Any tips here?

17012-S01-A00 VALVE SET, BYPASS SOLENOID $64.00
17012-S10-L00 VALVE SET, SOLENOID $71.51
To make matters more confusing, the Honda eStore has 17012-S10-L01.

(they can put an ecu in and clear the light. once the monitor completes, the light can come back on, and you're out 800 bucks. pathetic. Check the monitor yourself before you pay the bill. TRUST ME ON THIS.)
I would change the two-way valve as well. They should have done that because it is directly bolted to the bypass valve.
Honda service you suck. Stop hiring little kids who are not qualified to tighten a drain plug. Get someone who knows how to diagnose a car and earn HONEST money instead of guessing and ripping people off. In my book thats a crime. Taking money and not providing the product requested.

hey billman, this was a very helpful thread. i'll be performing these tests soon to trace down my p1457. my car has been running very sluggishly for a few months now, do you think these faulty parts can noticeably affect a cars performance? the funny thing is, when i disconnect my vac hose at my fuel pressure regulator, my car seems to run way better, do you think this is somehow connected with my p1457?

is it possible that the malfunction of these 2 parts, evap two way valve and evap bypass solenoid valve, could be cutting off the vent flow of fresh air to the fuel tank, thus making the fuel pump run at lower pressure, which i counter by removing vac at the fuel pressure regulator?
