its the test pipe, lol

I've been thinking about powercoating my tips black so that I don't have to deal with the dingy color from the soot

Just do what I've done the last year and don't clean it at all. After a while, it looks like you have flat black mufflers!

My new 2007 has black soot with only 3000 miles. I suspect it is how you drive. When you are WOT, the computer goes open loop and unburned Hydrocarbons get through your exhaust system. Normal driving the injectors are regulated for maximum combustion.
