Broken rod due to oil overfill
I have a customer here, which I am thinking may have oil hydrolocked. We were running the Dragon, and he was blowing lots of smoke on turns. From what I gather, he was 1/2 qt overfill.
The small end of the connecting rod broke off around the wrist pin. The wrist pin is still in the piston.
The rod also broke at the big end. The rod cap and the bearing are flawless. There is definitely NO oil starvation at the crank.
There is no sign of the rod seizing on the small end either.
It was not raining.
So the big question is, does anyone think 1/2 qt overfull of oil could cause enough oil to enter the cylinder to lock it? Or perhaps 1 qt overfill?
All I have right now it the parts I pulled out of the #1 cyl hole with the head off.
Lets discuss, and I'll post some money pics

I would not think so either. I wish I knew the amount of oil left. Even after the rod broke, and he lost oil out of the side of the block, it still showed full on the stick.

We did have an ap1 come in smoking like we the people. As it turned out the owner had an oil change done at a jiffy lube and they overfilled the car by several quarts. After a proper oil change the car was fine.

This I would like to know since I've heard of some track guys overfilling their oil(not sure how much) on purpose during track use to avoid oil starvation.
i'll say wait for bill's picture then

I have an 02 with the vortech and had about 6 quarts or just over that and it read over the Full line on the stick, so i had no problems for 3 K miles on it, i've had an oil change since then but rode the dragon as well and had NO problems, either i was lucky, or over fill of oil wasn't the cause!
