Buying a used unknown engine or JDM to swap- Crazy?

I have personally bought a f22c on ebay from TAE in tampa for my brothers s2000. This was a few years back and the engine still runs great. They always have s2000 engines for sale. I also highly suggest you look for a f22c. The f22 compared to a f20 always dyno significantly higher. If you really dead set on getting a f20c then i would just buy a jdm f20c from a JDM engine importer like hmotorsonline. Jdm f20c are very easy to comeby. They always have low millage and the engine importes garantee their engines.
also just to show i'm not bias i currently run my oem f20c just because its super reliable and still had not blown up. But i know for a fact a f22c will always be the faster engine.

Pretty sure each F20 vs F22 dyno i've ever watched live (2006-2008 s2ki dyno meet) to online posts of stock vs stock shows F22 is stronger.

I have had my s2000 for well over 10 years and I have been on the Forbes forever. I have dynoed my car well over 10 times with many different setups and I have also seen many other s2000s dynoed both in person and online. My tuner also has dynoed countless of other s2000,s. I can tell you as a fact with all thing being equal f22c with always make more power than a f20c. The gape only widens when you star adding mods.

Stock vs stock what's the power/torque gap that you've seen on those dynos?

F20 I seen dyno 184-204whp stock depending on the dyno.
F22 is on average about 5% more powerful ~10hp. There really is no replacement for displacement.

With all things being equal there is never any replacement for displacement. but hey us f20 guys can brag about our 9k redline.

Something like this would make me feel better about buying a used engine it shows they at least did some work to ensure the engine is in good shape. There is always a risk but the more info you can get the better.
As for the F20 vs F22 debate I to would go with an F22. More for the added reliability over the early 00-01 engines than any difference in power. The F22 does make more torque and if you put on a lighter flywheel than the 22lb boat anchor Honda put on them stock it is the best of both worlds. At the end of the day I would probably try to find the engine with the lowest miles and most info (compression test car history etc) that I can find that was within my budget.

5-10% for for a f22c compared to a f20c is pretty normal. Most stock f20's dyno somewhere in the 185-195 at my local dyno and f22 stock are always over 200whp. I have seen many f22 with a tune and full exhaust and intake dyno over 220whp and most f20c dont even come close. The gap gets a lot bigger once they are boosted. On my f20c i made 425whp on 91 octane and 588whp on e85. I know some on with the same exact turbo kit on the same dyno with the same tuner with a stock f22c make 480whp on 91 octane with the same about of boost.

9k RPM is what I prefer. It's one of the things that set the S2K apart from every other high performance Honda ever made and nothing else feels like it. AP2/F22 doesn't give that same feeling. I love both but AP1/F20 FTW in my book. That being said I really would love to have a CR! That way I can have best of both
