Default Can the VTEC point be lowered?

The only significant issue I have with my '04 S2k is that the VTEC band is so narrow that, when on the track, I can lose VTEC when shifting, especially when short-shifting. This really makes sixth gear essentially useless on the track, which is a pity.

Is it realistic to think about lowering the VTEC point to, say, 5500rpm?

If so, any idea how much this would cost, and whether there is any good reason not to do this?

Thanks.

Well, the short answer would be Yes you can lower the VTEC engagement. You can accomplish this using a VAFC. Check the for sale forums since these items pop up once in awhile.

As for the pros/cons of lowering VTEC, I'll let someone else chime in on this.

Using a VAFC to change VTEC engagement point is rather common. I've never heard of any damaged caused by this, although I suppose it's possible for somebody to mess up the settings and cause issues that way. But if it's done right, no, I don't think you'll have any issue.

Yes you can cause prob's if you do not match the fuel when you make the change. You cars ECU automaticly has a fuel incress at the vtec point now. But when you change the vtec point you need to change the fuel output at that RPM that you set the vtec point at. I would not change the vtec myself because you will not gain anything I would buy the VAFC and take it to a shop and get it tunned on the dyno and it is only about $150 to do that and it is worth it.

Just trying to look out for ya

I thank you all for your input. From these responses and the other threads to which I was pointed, I gather that it can be done, it can be done in a way which helps, but one has to take into account all the variables, such as timing, fuel supply and whatever else. It sounds like it's not a trivial matter, but I'll look into how much a tuning place would charge for this.
