Default can you LOWER the redline with a stock ap1 ecu?

Hey All,

My MY2000 has an f22 swap, running the stock ecu. I have always been careful not revving the crap out of the engine as the stock ap1 ecu will let the f22 rev a lot higher than 8200rpm. The other day, I missed 3rd gear on a spirited drive and revved right around 9k. I know that is not the end of the world, but I would prefer the peace of mind of a correct redline. Is there any obd2 plugin or ecu wire-tap mechanism that will allow me to lower my redline on a drive by cable S2000? I know a standalone ecu would do the trick, but I aint got time for that (atleast right now).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My reward will be to produce more diy videos for the S2000 on YouTube (Garage Topics).https://www.youtube.com/c/garagetopics

Thanks

It's my understanding that the 04-05 ecu would be the correct candidate for this, since it's the original ECU for this early AP2 engine. I believe it's plug and play. Alternatively, i've heard of people running F22's to the rev limit of F20

Nothing is going to protect you from mechanically over revving the engine if you shift to the wrong gear.

As a fellow F22/ap1 ecu guy, it would be nice to have that ability, but short of an Emanage I am not aware of any other piggy back device that can provide this feature. I rev mine out to where the power drops off, which is 8400-8500 rpm which is deemed totally safe and its pretty obvious when the power drops off if your in tune with your machine. You can add a shift beeper if you need the extra help. Alternatively, if you track your car, its nice to have that extra 500rpms of over rev once in a wile between corners, saving you from an extra shift if you find yourself in such a situation.

So you misshifted as in you accidentally hit neutral and reved it to 9k in neutral using throttle, or you shifted to lower gear instead of higher gear and that forced engine to 9k from cars momentum?

Nothing will prevent a too low a gear overrev. Rev limiters cut fuel and or ignition. Neither of those would help if you downshift instead of upshift.

Worth repeating: Nothing will prevent a too low a gear over-rev. Rev limiters cut fuel and or ignition. Neither of those would help if you downshift instead of up-shift.

The ECU on your car is not "tuneable" without a piggy back or standalone ECU.

I believe the ECU cuts the fuel at the injectors. Scared the heck out of me the first time it happened on my favorite on-ramp.

Not related but when is the last time that air filter was cleaned?

Wouldn't you want to go to the ap2 ecu to get the correct tune anyways? I'm assuming you're leaving a bunch of power on the table running it this way.

I'm not sure about the idea of over-revving any engine past the manufacturer's intended redline. We used to do this all the time to souped-up VW desert buggy engines, a long time ago. Boy, those engines were lucky to make it past one summer's worth of sand dunes.

Likely not, bolt ons will ultimately determine and fair chance an improvement in power would be had due to a leaner afr. But an 02-03 ecu id be weary of running too lean if all but stock with cat still in place. afr gauge is important here.

F22 at 8500rpm is the equivalent piston speed of an f20. - But thats without the sand
