Cleaned IAC, now idles high

Hey guys, I recently cleaned my IAC due to a rough idle. I followed the instructions based on a popular post here. I used throttle body cleaner and thoroughly cleaned the IAC. It now idles at approximately 3k RPM. No check engine light. I reset the ECU and still revs high as if I'm slightly giving it gas. The throttle cable has enough slack set. Is it possible I cleaned out the grease on the roller bearings which would cause this problem? If so what type of grease should I put in the IAC bearings?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Double check all your vacuum lines/hoses

You likely washed grit in between the rotary shaft and housing, making it worse.

You want results that really matter, split the halves and spin the shaft free with you fingers. Use no cleaner at all.

Thanks for the responses.

Unfortunately I wont be able to work on my car until next week as I am away for business. I don't recall touching any of the hoses when working on the IAC, but I will recheck everything when I get back. I cleaned the unit pretty thoroughly without removing the electronic motor. Billman, I read your post about cleaning the IAC valve. Can I just put oil in the bearings or will I need to take off the electronic control part to relub them? And what type of oil do you recommend for lubrication?

Thanks

The grease in the bearings gets hard over time. The only way to get a flawless perfect idle (the magnet motor needs to move that shaft with no resistance) is to take the motor portion off and spin the shaft free. Oil in the bearings alone will not help.

Use sewing machine oil, or any very thin oil.

The brake in lube for AK's works wonders.

I finished working on the IAC today and I am very glad I made this post. The solutions provided were just what I needed to correct my situation. The idle is back to normal and idles much smoother than before. Not a hard task to accomplish if anyone else has the same problem. Thanks Billman

Did you end up needing grease ? If so what kind did you use? thanks in advance.

No one will need grease, or cleaner.

Spin the shaft till free, add thin roller skate oil sewing machine oil to the bearings if desired (I personally have never cleaned one or oiled one, just spun the shaft free)

You can whip/spin the shaft at high speed with one finger, give it a good 100 turns or so takes 10 seconds once apart.
