isnt there a picture of this and how to adjust the rod somewhere on here? if someone manages to find it, could you throw it in here to have all of the info together?

That's why I wanted to clarify. Really important to read Billman's post on the two types of play that you feel and can see when looking at the assembly. This was the light bulb moment for me. Otherwise you can easily screw up your clutch.
ah okay I think I got it now, thanks for the continued replies on this. I didn't adjus my rod 100% tight so I don't have to worry about the MC free play, I left a bit of adjustment at the rod so I should be safe either way even though I'm not as tight as Billman250 may suggest, still tighter than it was previously. I should be good, thanks

Yeah, there are a number of posts like the one below with pictures. The difference for me is that most of them never really describe what's going on when you adjust the rod. i.e. What happens if you lengthen the rod too much. These posts tend to suggest that you adjust for the "feel" you want... or the engagement point you want. The original one I highlighted with Billman's comments was the first that made me understand what's going on behind the scenes. If you lengthen the rod too much, you can wind up with a non self-adjusting clutch... and you may wind up frying it. I've read posts where people have done this... so please use caution and don't attempt this if you aren't sure what you are doing. But... here is a post with pictures per your request. The description in this post, however, I found confusing, so you may want to search more.

Do this adjustment at your own risk!

I actually went too far and found that I could cause my clutch to slip. I have readjusted for a smaller amount of freeplay and will try that out tomorrow.

was your clutch rod right up tight with zero clearance ?, I've left about an 1/8th of an inch clearance on mind just to be safe.

I compared my clutch pedal measurements with the shop manual tonight and it says my pedal should be 7.74 inches from the floor, I think mind is just over 6 inches, and it is already higher than the brake pedal, I'd hate to see it up at 7.74 inches. I think as long as the stroke distance is within spec I'll leave it as it is, I don't want to mess with it too much and I don't want my clutch pedal up too high if I can get away with it.

Also keen on some photos of the adjustment if anyone cares to post. I just want to understand it before I go ahead and do it.. I want to eliminate the 2nd gear grind.

My 2nd adjustment was much better - no crunch when it's cold going into 2nd and the engagement point is close to orginal. This is a win - win for me.
