confused by answer at dealership...fluid change or flush?
So i was at the dealership picking up coolant and an oil filter when i decided to ask the service department about cost to do my transmission and diff fluid change. They gave me 2 different price, for simple drain and fill, or flush and fill.
Now i only have 15K, so know changing trans and diff might be a little premature (manual says 30K), but i just got the car so I want a baseline for the summer. I never read on these forums about people getting a flush done to their trans or diff...is it overkill? I am definitely not considering it, but it has me wondering a bit

If you have a level surface save some money and do it yourself! Literally takes a hour for both, or a little longer for the first time.. My dif took about 2 hours cause i was running around trying to get a open wrench 23mm (I think) for the filler bolt which no one in my area had... But flush means they put some fluid through the top and allow it to drain down. Fill means that they drain and just fill it up. I would just go for the fill because the flush isn't worth the extra price considering your mileage. If the flush is over 5 bucks more don't even think about doing it! Its a rip off!
Do not flush your dif or trans with anything.
Drain and fill is the best for your car.
Dealer is the worst for your car.
ANY fluid drains are best done immediately after a long drive. The fluid drain fast, but more importantly contaminants are lifted into suspension in the fluid, so the drain out with it.
If any dirty fluid sits dormant, contaminants fall to the bottom and stick to the metal and they will not drain out.

I've worked at dealerships and independent shops. The independents are much bigger thieves than the dealer. You can not flush a diff or manual trans just drain and fill. If you have any mechanical ability you can do it very easily and also choose what fluid goes back in it
Thank you for the replies. Yea, i never heard of a flush done on these diffs and trans, so i was just seriously confused and had to bounce it off everyone here on the forums. For sure not letting them touch the car, especially since it seems so easy (thanks to all the info from the forums).
thanks for clearing the air on this for me
