Default Coolant flush - block drain sealant, non-Honda coolant

I'm getting ready to do my first coolant flush on my stock 04 AP2. Just reviewed the procedure in the shop manual and DIY procedure on threads in this forum. Couple of questions:

1. If I do open the block drain bolt, as opposed to draining the block at the oil cooler hose, is it OK to use Permatex blue RTV silicone gasket maker, which I have, or should I get the HondaBond liquid gasket stuff?

2. I have several gallons of Prestone extended life coolant, labeled as GM Dex-Cool approved, intended for 5-yr duty, labeled as silicate-free, phosphate-free. Is this stuff OK for our engines, or should I get the Honda Type II blue coolant?

Appreciate advice.

If you can get the block drain bolt open you are a much better person than me, that thing was a major pain in the butt. I never opened it yet I got pretty much all of the fluid out of it.

Permatex sealants are good, they u sed to have a grey one that was very similar to hondabond.

I only prefer Honda coolant, looking at my rad that was seven years old it was totally free of any deposits or corrosion running Honda coolant , It looked brand new. I wouldnt use anything else regardless of price.

Dex-Cool is only good for killing weeds. I wouldn't put it in anything I own. Total crap.

OK, heading over to my local Honda dealer to pick up a couple of gallons of the Honda Type II coolant - $19.95/gal (sigh).

Guess I'll use the oil cooler coolant line to drain the block.

I put the Prestone extd-life coolant in my 2003 Pilot last summer - hope it's OK.

Well I'm done. I picked up 4 gal of Honda Type 2 coolant at local dealer; did the flush/fill. Seemed like I only got ~ 5 liters out, but it took at least 6.5 liters to fill . I didn't even attempt the block drain bolt; struggled with the oil filter cooler line until I decided to remove the air cleaner box to improve access. But when I got that hose off, very little coolant came out. Oh well, it's done - and I did an oil & filter change while I had it up on the jack stands. Car is ready for my 2600-mile trip to Montana (from Los Angeles westside) to visit friends.
