Covering header in fiberglass
Any opinions good or bad about raping your header in fiberglass from the block until you get to the cat????
Wrapped the header in my brothers 1990 Honda accord (N/A) from the block back to the cat with Thermotec Exhaust Header Wrap. Saw a 0.7 leaner A/F.
Adjusted the Fuel pressure to get back the 0.7 change.
Did not get to dyno after; he wrapped her around a tree.
So I don

The one benefit associated with header wraps is that it reduces underhood temps, but since the OEM header on this car already has an extensive arrangement of heat shields, you won't gain much from this mod. On the other hand, the detriments of wrapping the OEM header may be many, one of which you already have discovered.
On an aftermarket header that doesn't come with its own heat shields, wrapping that (usually) thinner tubing may be a bad thing in that keeping the extra heat in may shorten the life of the header.

If you guys know is it possible to reinstall the factory heat shield with the Mugen header???
I has thinking of wrapping the Mugen header either way once it comes in.
I wrapped the header on my dailey driver 6 years a go with the Thermotec stuff.
They clam there stuff is a silica based fabric instead of fiberglass and will not "over insulate".
www.thermotec.com
I have steamed cleaned the enginebay about 10 time since then.
The wrap was soaked every time and was dried by running the engine for a while.
The HP racing header is still strong as the day it was purchased.
Is it possible the fiberglass wrap reacts with the steal/welds and the silica stuff does not?

I don't think he should be raping his header either.

I was not aware that the Mugen came with a new heat shield.
Wrapping could possible get you just a little bit more performance.
Every bit counts

With out getting into to much of the thermo dynamics and fluid equations
Here is my mechanical engineering opinion
Take note I use exhaust gas flow and fluid flow interchangeably.
Assuming you had the proper amount of fuel based on air mass in the combustion process before the wrap and did not change this amount after the wrap. Higher EGT
