Crank to cam timing off but car runs perfect?
So I recently bought an ap1 with 200k miles and did the valve spring retainer ap2 upgrade. Before removing the cams I noticed that the marks for the crank are not even close when the cams are aligned correctly. I’ve attached pictures. Before I put everything back together I wanted to get some feedback as to why or how the marks could be this far off while the car is running flawlessly? It is the stock Ecu. Thanks!
Having trouble uploading the pictures for some reason so here is a flickr link with them:.

The chain stretches after a while, I'd say you got another ~40k miles before it starts becoming an issue. It can be corrected with offset woodruff keys(cheapest most difficult), an aftermarket adjustable cam gear, or a new chain(most fool proof but also the most labor).

That appears to be one tooth off.
Likely not your doing, but possibly from a previous owner. Removing the TCT is the only way it can get like that.

The car will run a tooth retarded. Which is what it looks like
Remove the cams, fix the crank timing to tdc, then replace the cams at tdc. It definitely looks like you may have not been in time when putting the cams back after the retainer/keeper job?
edit: nope it definitely is a tooth off on the crank

If i remove the cams and rotate the crank to match the mark on the cover, the two marks at 9 and 3 on the middle gear obviously wont line up. Does that matter?

Also remove idler gear, and move chain 1 tooth until correct.
lots of shims there so care needed not to drop them into the bottom of engine

Just got the car back together and fixed the timing issue by removing the tensioner and idler gear. Shout out to billman and noodles for the help. thanks s2ki! Car seems to be running alot smoother now that the cam and crank timing are lined up!
