Default High pitch whine in reverse

In the past week, I have been getting a high-pitch whine sound from my 2006 S2K. I would say the sound is something between a high-speed power drill and a weedeater. The sound only happens when the car is in reverse and moving. As soon as I shift into first and engage the clutch, the sound stops. At first, this only happened periodically, but in the past three days it is every time I use reverse. The car is otherwise running fine, and transmission / clutch is working as normal. Anyone have any thoughts? I did a search and found some comments about bearings, but most of the posts also seemed to reference other shifting issues too. My main concern, since the car is pretty much a daily driver in decent weather, is whether I should keep driving it until I can get it to a mechanic? I have a scheduled service this Saturday. Thanks for any advice.

How does the tranny lubricant look like? You up to the full mark (fill hole)?

As a follow-up to my original post, and question from windhund116. The car was parked for three day (mainly due to storms and heavy rain). I had not yet checked the transmission fluid. I did take the car for a short run to top off the fuel, and to my surprise when backing out of the garage there was no noise while in reverse. The next morning I had a previously scheduled service appointment at the dealership and had already briefed the service adviser about the noise. Again, when leaving for the appointment there was no noise. At the dealership they had me back up a couple of times to try to get it to happen - nothing.

When the service was finished, I had a chance to talk with both the mechanic and service adviser and they could find nothing wrong. All the fluid levels were good, and the condition of the fluids also good. Car is still running great, and no shifting issues at all. I'm at a loss. About the only thing I know to do now is try to record it if it happens again and email the file to them.

Thanks for the input and any other ideas are welcome.
