Denso VK20
 

Dear all,

I went to buy the Denso IK24 today but my dealer in Athens told me that this item is not suggested for this car. :confused:
Alternatively i should get the VK20 which is a bit nore expensive. Having read all your notes about IK24 I was at least shocked and I stopped this transaction until I consult you guys. Let me know if you are aware of this type of spark plug.

Must be something available where you live. Sparkplugs.com lists no "VK" model sparkplugs from Denso.

The IK-22 Denso plug is the "recommended" one for the S2000. However, many owners go to one heat range colder, using the Denso (IK-24), which must be ordered specifically by not cross referencing to an S2000.

However, if you are F.I., Denso Iridium plugs have been shown to be problematic and are not recommended.

ps. If "IK" plugs are "Iridium", what the heck are "VK" plugs?

It would appear that these are also Iridium plugs meant for the UK/European market. "Follow your heart, Luke!" :p

i dont remember what i put in my car last time :( (year ago :confused: ) i picked it up from a local auto part store...
is it important to run the "IK-22 Denso plugs?????

No, you don't have to run Iridium plugs at all. The OEM plugs are platinum and they work just fine. It's just that some people like the idea of using Iridium plugs because they give a good compromise between longevity and producing a good spark.
If you are asking about whether or not you should be using the IK-22 or IK-24 .........................

What do u recommend xViper? I wouldnt mind chaning the plugs every 30k miles.

There was a thread on this a while back. Quite a few users of the Denso Iridium plugs posted that after a few months, those things caused a high rpm miss. Some have gone to other brands of Iridium plugs, but many have simply gone to the copper racing plugs - NGK 7173 is common. However, these need to be changed out (or at least cleaned) every 3000 to 5000 miles. Not a bad thing to do to know that your FI car is running OK. You will not get 30K miles out of a copper plug in FI.
