DIY: AP2 Clutch Delay Valve - Snap Ring Removal

Hey S2000 fellas!

I have just completed the Clutch Delay Valve removal on the AP2 and I wanted to share an easier way to remove the Snap Ring.

For those who doesn't know what I'm talking about, please refer to the link below:

We all know that the snap ring is a *itch to take it out. I have spent a few hours trying to take the stupid ring off. Finally, I decided to improvise by cutting a slit with a dremel.

Take a look at the pictures below.

Rotate the snap ring away from where you are cutting.

Once it is cut, you can rotate the snap ring and use a small tool to push it out.

Here is a side view of the cut.

Inside view of the cut, make sure you don't cut too far in.

Enjoy!

great suggestion!!

I did something similar---I drilled a 1/8 inch hole with a drill into the space where the ring was split, rotated the edge of the ring over the hole and took the bit out of the drill and used the dull end of it to push the snap ring out.
took all of 5 minutes (I'd spent over an hour fooling with it before I thought of using a drill)

your method is even better as it gives you a "slot" to work the ring up and out

Thank you for postng this information with pictures. I've been wanting to perform this modification to my 2007 S and have been searching for hours on the topic with no real success other than debates over weather or not to perform the mod? Anyone who thinks its OK to have their clutch slip when performing a high rev shift is out of their mind. Of couuse the CDV will protect your Differential if you rev it up and dump the cluth but once again, who is stupid enough to put their car through that kind of abuse? Like you, I just want the clutch to do its job and I don't need a Delay Valve to protec my powertrain by letting my clutch slip....period.

Peace,

A soon to be happy AP2 Owner
