Default "Built" cylinder heads/engines: longevity (pics)

Had a customer come in with a beautiful 2006 with only 18k on the clock, for routine check up. Come to find out the valve adjustment clearances are off the chart. Further inspection reveals the car has a "built" head. These are typical findings of any non-oem parts inside the engine. The oem parts are hard as diamonds, and will never come apart like this. Ever.

Note the pic above is from a build with somewhere under 18k miles. There are more pics to follow, including camshafts that are coming apart as well. I wont mention the makers of the parts publicly.

This car was bought from a Honda dealer, and the customer was unaware of the engine's condition. If you have any aftermarket valves in your engine, or any non-oem engine parts, the chances are high that they are coming apart.

The car also burns a lot of oil. We are praying that the large amounts of powdered metal have not destroyed the cylinder walls.

OEM parts currently have a 100% track record in 14 years worth of cars, holding valve adjustment clearances for 150k and counting. These aftermarket "builds" are completely unnecessary, metal shaving off in the first mile, a massive downgrade to an indestructible engine, coming out of adjustment in 5k miles or less.

The cam lobe is also wearing away, leaving a ridge on the left side of the lobe.

Camshaft bearing journal coming apart (the cam, not the alum journal)

Intakes out to .013, exhausts out to .015. Essentially .004 worth of missing metal x 16.

Wow, was that just from the cam lobes being shaved down? I see the stem tips took a beatings, did they mushroom out?

Mushrooming is an understatement. The parts are disintegrating, there is likely 10k or less on this stuff.

Pull apart an oem engine with over 200k, and the valve tips will be in brand new condition.
