Default Driveshaft(?) Making Huge Grinding Noise

Hey everyone! First post, dont know where this should go.

I was on the way home from work, light turned red, waited for it to turn green. Put it in first and tried to leave. There is a loud grinding noise coming from the drivers side rear tire area(usdm ap1). She's currently sitting in the nearby gas station parking lot to be towed in the morning. I suspect the driveshaft, but a few others say it may also be the differential. The sound can be compared to what it sounds like when you grind gears, but about 5-10× more obnoxious and only seems to occur while in first gear. Second seems okay, I can reverse just fine. Doesn't seem like a clutch issue because it would probably be coming from the front or middle but the sound is audibly obvious coming from the rear left wheel area. Could anyone tell me what part this could be so I don't buy the wrong part??

You should actually troubleshoot it, instead of one of us guessing for you based on your description of the sound.

Get it on some sturdy jack stands, and try and replicate the problem. Then see if you can pinpoint where its coming from.

Also, spin the prop shaft and wheels by hand, see if you feel any grinding, excessive play, etc.
