Engine bay pipe question

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,

I am looking at buying a 2006 S2k this weekend. I had a question about a hose in the engine bay compartment that I hope someone can help me out with - One of hoses is showing some wear on the foam lining. For a good 5-6 inch section, there are portions of foam that have chunked off and partially exposing the underlying metal tubing. I attached a picture highlighting the part that I am talking about (grabbed from the internet and drawn on - did not think to take a photo of the actual car when I was on site).

Would I be right that this is radiator piping? Besides just cosmetics, is there any need to replace it any time soon? Is it odd that there was this wear on the foam, if so, what would that indicate?

Thanks!

That is insulation over an air conditioner line. Does not need to be replaced.

For best operation the AC piping should be insulated. Home Depot probably has the right size installation and some cable ties will hold it in place. These pipes are insulated in my home AC system too, so it's pretty universal the AC benefits from it.
