Engine failure statistics

Hi,

Often we see these threads on major engine failures, so lets try to see if we can get some statistics about the frequency of these events.

Please only select yes if you have had major engine failure, drinking oil is not a major damage, we are looking for things were the car was totally unable to go further.

I got the ticking. Honda discovered a scored cylinder and replaced the short block. Although my original F20C never "stopped" and never consumed oil, it was a major engine failure.

Hi Barry

Fair enough, but we shure need more numbers for this to give any indications at all.

Could be cool to have a statitistic, with 500-1000 cars included.

Statistics like this will be extremely skewed. A disproportionate amount of cars here will answer that they've had engine failure, because people come here when their cars have problems, yet, many people will never visit this site if their car has no problems.

So, to make the poll fair, take the number of yes responses you have, and divide by the total number of S2000s in the world. You CANNOT divide by the total number of answers and get a realistic result.

Yeah, and the percentage of people who mod their cars, and/or drive them hard, is probably much higher than the percentage of those outside the online community.

I agree that the results are skewed, but your proposal would skew them in the opposite direction far more severlely. Understand that far less than half S2k owners are actually members of this board.

All we can do is try.

The truth is that Honda knows the statistics. They know how many cars they've sold and how many replacement engines they've sold.

So in conclusion, this poll does nothing but aggravate people and present an image to the world that Honda has a massive failure rate, lowering resell value of our cars.

If I aggravate the bastards fantastic. They have aggravated by bveing complete assholes.
I am sorry if my commentslower anyones resale value but if it hurts Honda Australia in the long run then so be it.

I'm only one person, but I can say honestly say that I knew all about the #4 cylinder problem when I purchased my car. I did not believe it to be a problem that Honda would ignore and from my view they corrected it very quickly and replaced several engines as well. I still believe it was a short term production line problem. I'm upset they have not come forward with any explaination for the US market on the banjo bolt issue. But, I still believe I have a very reliable engine in my S2000.
