Engine nº question

I bought my very much fun to drive AP1 S2000 in UK, but the car was first registered in Japan, then imported to UK. I wonder whether my engine spec is the Japanese or the European one. Main reason, knowing the compression ratio, 11,7 or 11. Engine nº is F20C100xxxx.

See if your engine has 2 knock sensors, IIRC that's another way to see if its a JDM F20.

As far as I know only the F20C2 used in Europe.

:hello:

Er ... thanks, but how do knock sensors look like? ;)

SpitfireS 12-12-2010 11:06 PM

They look like the word "search" :p

Plenty of pics of them around here.
(lots of broken ones after a clutch change... followed by pic of new ones & part numbers to replace them ;) )

:tipwink:

Tonicu, are you wondering if it's a JDM S2000, or just a JDM motor in a UK/Euro chassis?

You can easily check for a JDM chassis since they have a different VIN system. That is, instead of something like JHMAP1148YT000814 (my car's VIN, pictured below), if my car were JDM it would just be numbered as AP1-1000814 (see other example below).

Some JDM cars might also have a VIN plate on the front brace over the radiator:

Not sure if the engine number itself indicates whether it's a JDM or world-market F20C. (As I recall my engine number is F20C-10008xx, same format as above JDM number...but it might be F20C1-10008xx, which would make sense.)

Edit: Car's not with me right now, but I just found an old photo of my motor and the engine number is in fact F20C1-10008xx. So your engine number does appear to be for a JDM motor.

Thanks for your reply and for the pics, 2hoos. My car chasis nº looks like the one that appears on your 3rd picture.
The plate shown in your last one - identical to mine but for the numbers - doesnt's clarify much, as I still don't know whether my engine runs on 11,7 or 11/1 compression ratio, and have 250 or 240PS.

From what you've described, your engine is the JDM version with 11.7:1 compression, rated at 250PS. Enjoy it -- but use the highest-octane fuel you can find.

I'll have a word then with a colleague at the nearby airfield, see if he can find some BP avgas 80 aviation fuel. ;)
