Engine Tick Help
I have an MY2000 s2000 I picked up a couple months ago. The car seems to have developed an engine tick.
I checked the oil and it was only down 2 Xs, so I don't think that is the problem cause. No check engine light. It sounds like either a valve or a spun bearing from the research I've done. Can anyone confirm? It does not appear to be the TCT. Tick can only be heard at idle. At the end of the video I close the hood so you might need to turn up the volume. I did this so the mic would not amplify the sound of the tick. It really isn't that loud I plan on pulling the oil pan to check to metal shavings later this week |
definitely not TCT.
Sounds like a valve adjuster backed off, or a number 4 cylinder liner failure. |
Thanks. I will have the valves adjusted to see if that reduces or eliminates the sound. I don't know when it was last performed
Here is a new video with reving: Does it sound like a spun bearing (I don't think so), perhaps from before I bought the car? |
Dude... I think im having the same problem....except mine doesn't tick as often

Update: I let the car idle for 15 minutes and it gave a CEL of cylinder 1 misfire.
Anyone? |
take the valve cover off, also do a compression and leakdown test. maybe some spark plugs were under torqued and screwed up the plug and cyl walls
