EPS Light came on randomly?

I turned my S2000 on and the EPS came on. Drove it for a block and realized the power steering was gone. Parked, turned her off, and then turned her back on and the light has not shown up since. It’s been a couple hours of driving and everything seems fine although the steering seems lighter (maybe that’s in my head) but do I need to worry? Or was it just a fluke? Also I got a code about a week ago concerning my oil pressure switch. I’m assuming they aren’t related.... idk. HELP.

Complete a battery and charging system inspection before anything else.

+1 to check the charging system. When the alternator failed on my drive home from the track (80 miles), the idiot light never came on. But as the battery voltage dropped, the first indication was the EPS light randomly coming on. Eventually it stayed on :(. ABS eventually quit too. Recharging the battery and replacing the alt solved the issue.

Turns out it's common on Hondas for the alternator to fail to properly charge the battery without the idiot light coming on.

How soon did these events occur? From the light first coming on until it eventually died? Also, is there any correlation to that and the CEL for the oil pressure switch coming on about a week ago too? We cleared that code and it has not come back either... The oil is fine and not below the marker. Also we checked yesterday and the code is not showing up at all. Just a fluke or....?

You said in your original post that you had driven for several more hours so that suggests to me that, if it's the charging system, that it's only intermittently failing. Otherwise the battery would have been discharged by now. If it was my car, I'd check the battery voltage with the engine running to be sure that the alt is charging. If/when the EPS light comes on again, check the battery voltage. If it's low, that would suggest the charging system isn't functioning. If the voltage is good, then maybe it's in the EPS itself. I'm afraid I can't help much more with the EPS as I haven't (yet) experienced any other issues with it.

A simple way to monitor battery voltage, especially if you don't already have a DVM, is something like . It's not ideal in our S2000s as the 12v socket isn't in the dash as with most cars, but it's still simpler than opening the hood and measuring with a DVM.

As for the CEL you mentioned, hard to say if they are related. When electrical systems operate at below-normal voltages, they can do strange and unexpected things. But it could be something else as well. That's part of the joy of troubleshooting intermittent electrical issues.

Awesome man thank you!! I appreciate your detailed answer. I have a voltage meter I can use. I’ll keep an eye on it.
