exhaust
after looking at several aftermarket cat-back systems, it seems that the pipe size is 2.5".
is that the optimal? what diamiter are the OEM pipes? 1/4 to 1/2" over would work - correct? I have done that scenario on past cars and trucks, but this S2000 is so tempermental, I don't want to waste money. There is a small muffler shop in my old neighborhood that does very nice custom work and they are reasonably priced thanks for any input. |
thanks for all of the replies......

That's going to improve the responsiveness, I'm sure. Like you said, the S2000 is "temperamental". Generally, you'll find advantages from having a free-flowing exhaust, but there is a point of diminishing returns. If you're keeping the stock catalytic converter, that will often be a limiting factor. Exhaust tuning is as much an art as a science, particularly since the exhaust system on the S2000 is very well designed (for a mass-produced car) from the factory. To improve upon it, you'll likely have to switch to a single-outlet exhaust and endure a louder (and possibly unpleasant) exhaust note. Without knowing what other modifications you've made (or plan to make) to your car, no one here can really recommend a good exhaust for you. But honestly, if you don't want to waste money, don't bother buying any exhaust. You're only going to gain 3-4hp from a dual-outlet exhaust or maybe 10hp from a well-design single outlet exhaust (on an otherwise stock car). |
mxt-77...thanks for the response. I read the book "how to make enemies and alienate people".
hence, my sarcasum. My question was what is the pipe size on the OEM system. I know that the boys at Honda have done an incredible job on this car. thanks, |
