F22 swap + ap1 trans + 4.77 good or bad?
I currently have a 02 ap1 with 4.77 gears. I am about to purchase a stock f22 to replace my f20 motor. How will all three perform together perform? Will the gears be even shorter than before or taller? I'm already use to the 4.77. The car is a weekend/nice day car/spirited driving car. Already has the act hd pp, oem clutch, 8lb act fw.

I have the same combination and is looking for some inputs regarding the 4.77 as well.

The engine has no effect on gearing, not sure what your asking. The F22 will rev to 9 k with your ap1 ecu, but its pointless to rev it that far because power drops off pretty dramatically after 8500rpms, and that's about the safe limit anyway. So with the shorter rev band from the motor along with the added trq the engine makes, your going to be shifting more with less speed between gears. Its not the best combo really, but you already have them so it is what it is, unless you want to fork over good money to return to stock, which is what id prefer to have had. 4.44 would be as high as id go NA regardless. Still getting you to 60mph in 1 shift with an ap1 rev limit. Stock ap2 gearing is already hindered with the stock 8200rpm.

I've driven a f22/ap1/4.77 and f25/ap2/4.77 both were fun as hell.
If you drive on the highway a lot you might not like it.
If you track a lot the gearing might not work well depending on the track layout.

Ur looking at a fun combo. It is a really good combo aswell. Highway drives wount be as fun but it depends on u. I have an 05 and I have a 7.5 fw and used to have the 477 gears. On track the 477 is extremely helpfully as long as u can shift good. But I recently went bak to oem gears as my car might be getting SC for GTA at buttonwillow this year.
