Front Sway Bar Installation

Hey guys, i've searched around for an answer to this question but i'm still confused. I have a 2001 s2000 and recently got a whiteline front sway bar. When i install it, do i need to have the 2 front tires on ramps or wood (maybe the whole car in the air on planks of wood?) so the weight is on the front or can i just use jack stands? I read about preload but i'm not sure whether i need it or not. Also, the whiteline front sway bar does not come with clamps to stop the bushings from moving laterally and i see that they sell them seperately. Are these necessary?

Thanks guys

You can have the car on jackstands to install the swaybars. If you have adjustable endlinks, you're suppose to preload the front suspension (many ways to do this) so that there is 0 tension placed by the swaybar when static. The endlink can be lengthened/shortened so that the net load/twist placed on the swaybar is essentially zero.

As for the swaybar collars, it's nice to have especially on larger diameter bars. If you hear the endlinks bashing into the shock body or the bushings getting pressed out of the mount, then you need the collars.

For the Whiteline, just install it using the OEM hardware with nothing more and you'll be fine

Alright because I thought that I needed to have the front end on ramps to put weight on it. Is that only when changing the endlinks out as well as the swaybar? Since I am only replacing the swaybar and using the stock endlinks I can put the front of the car on jackstands, take the old swaybar off, and put on and tighten the new one on the jackstands?

youre not going to be able to pre-load the bar with stock endlinks

Yes, install the swaybar/endlink with the car on jackstands. If you want to be proper, you can load the suspension before you torque everything down. This can be done by placing a floor jack under each control arm as you tighten the endlink nuts.
