Default Is a Garrett GT25 turbo efficient enough for the F20C(jdm)

Still pondering what size/spec turbo to get and I've been told by the guys at Garrett that the GT25 which is whats on the Nissan 180/200sx is a very good choice for my car as it will boost mid range torque and give the S2000 power where it needs it most!!!

Does anyone have any perticular views on this specific turbo, I'm going to be getting it hybrid-ised at Garrett if I end up getting it, but not sure what specs to yet!?!?!

Thanks

Andy

From my experiences and from what I have read, the Garrett GT Ballistic series turbos are world class turbos. The sizing will determine your power range and spool up times, the GT25 turbo is probably good for 400rwhp-450rwhp or so, with a quick spool up time.

I don't think there is a such thing as a turbo not being "efficient enough", it's ethier more or less efficient than another turbo.....

I see alot of people dreaming/talking about turbo setups. If you havent figured out the basics of your plans then I would even waste your time (and other's) calling everyone up talking about what turbo to get. Kinda like a group of guys trying to come up with a name for their band before they have any songs....

I'd think its a bit small. Depends how much boost you want to run. To check out the efficiency, find a compressor map of that particular turbo. Find how much PSI you're going to run, and see if its in the colored portion of the compressor map. If its near the edge, then you want to pick another.

You might need to figure out how much CF/M you need the turbo to put out, and that I leave up to you, cause I don't know how to do that!

I think the GT25 might be a bit too small, IMO.

It all depends on what you want. If you plan on drag racing your car a lot, get a T4 or equivilant size turbo. If you plan on doing most of your racing on the track, you should get either a T28 or T3 size turbo. If I were to ever build a turbo kit for my car, I'd use a Garrett GT series T3 with a small turbine wheel so spool time would be decreases but the compressor would still be much more efficient for midrange boost. I personally think the T4 is too but unless you are looking for all your power in the higher rpm ranges.

You may want to look into a T3/T4, best of both worlds. High efficiency and quick spool.

Ok, the top is HKS(re-badged Garrett), the second is Mitsubishi, the fourth is KKK(Audi & VW use them), what manufacturers are the third and fifth?

The third I've never heard of, the fifth I have heard a little about, but they aren't used very commonly. I would stick with the Garrett/HKS turbos. No reason not to.

I'll see if I can get the link from the RX-7 forums, but HKS has a new version of the T04 coming out, called the T04Z. Identical specs to the T04R (I think, might be the S), so they assume its a ball bearing version of it. Should be AWESOME!

Pickin right turbo-

Pick a boost level, pressure drop across intercooler, an atmospheric pressure (Sea Level is 14.7).

Pco=(Boost)+(Atmospheric Pressure)+(Intercooler Pressure Drop)

Now you find pressure Ratio (Pr)

Pr= (Pco)/Atmoshperic Pressure

Now find density of air.

Di= (Boost) + (Atmospheric Pressure)/ Rx12x(460+ Post Intercooler Temp)

If you want me to go on, PM me. If not just ask someone thats ran it or had expierience with it, it'll be quicker and less of a headache.

THe simplest way I can explain how to go about picking what size turbo you want to use is this,......get in your S2000,.....drive to Barnes and Noble or any other local book store,.......and buy Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. This will teach you everything you need to know about turbocharger systems and how to calculate everything you ever wanted to. I bought the book 2 years ago, read it in one night, and I have read it like 5 times since then. It has a plethora of knowlege.
