Default Genuine Honda 53101-S2A-A02 Torque Sensor Assembly Genuine Honda 53101-S2A-A02 Torque

I know that Honda isn't required to make every part for every year available for as long as I want, yet wouldn't they want to help keep the S alive, no matter what year it was made?

I'm having power steering issues (cold mornings sometime have a violent steering wheel shudder, some driving while warming up feels like manual steering, not power steering).

It seems that every site I've tried shows me that the Torque Sensor is discontinued and not for sale for my '01 S2K, just turned 95K miles today.

Does anyone, anywhere, know where I could find a part for my dear S?

I know this comes up all the time, but has anybody actually gotten to the point where they deconstructed a broken part and tried to figure out what component failed? If it's a simple component that's common to other EPS units in other cars it may be something that may be rebuilt. who knows. I feel like this is an area where a vendor could jump on and make a solution, as it's clear this could be an ongoing issue for S2K's if honda/parts manufacturers don't step in.

I actually ordered this part from Amazon in February. They are now telling me that I should expect delivery in June.

Is this a part that commonly fails?

It's failed for some people and is a potential future issue if it's working well after 20 years. I'd hope an electrical engineer can figure one out.

Some threads here address cleaning and changing the grease. Quite a few have reported it fixed their problems. I had a search in eBay for the part and a couple of months ago it came back with one from an AP2 06 with 70K miles. $45. I snapped it up. Looks like it is in good shape. Wrapped it up for a rainy day. Cheap insurance. Identical to Amazon part.

I had read that torque sensors up through MY '05 will work on my '01 AP1, and that AP2 '06 and above won't work for me.

I'm I'm going to try getting my unit cleaned and regreased first.
