Default Hard to get into gear during high rev shifting

I just recently picked up my second s2000. It's a GPW 2004 with 130k on the clock. Runs and drive perfectly except one small annoyance. When in higher rpm's around 6-7.5k (haven't taken it higher than that yet) ,changing gears becomes hard. It doesn't grind, although it probably would if I forced it into gear. It just takes a little extra force and a bit longer to mesh and fall into gear. 2k-6k shifts are smooth although sometimes notchy when the transmission is still cold.

The previous owner replaced the original clutch less than 2000 miles ago with a 6 puck Competition Clutch. It grabs very hard and I frequently experience shaking and chatter when taking off from first gear. I assume this is normal and the nature of a 6 puck clutch such as this? The master and slave cylinders were also replaced. I do not like this clutch but it must work for now until I can find the time in my busy schedule to revert it back to stock...

I have some ideas of what could be causing it such as:
Clutch not fully disengaging? I do have plenty of extra pedal travel though...
Wrong transmission fluid or not properly filled?
Worn shifter bushings. Probably unlikely, but I did order a new one and plan to install it tomorrow as well as re-grease it. It is developing some play so it needs replacing anyway
Worn syncros? I feel like this is unlikely because I experience this issue in all gears at high rpm's (haven't tried 5-6 though)

I really appreciate any suggestions!

clutch not fully disengaging. At higher rpm, a lot more force is required to move the clutch. If the master/slave are good, I would try a steel braided clutch line. The rubber line might be giving out

I had a similar problem, was really hard to get into gear at high rpms, (i have a fx300 clutch masters kit installed with about 20k on it.) i first though it was just air in the lines so i bled it but the problem was still there i was thinking it was still a hydraulic problem so i ordered a brand new oem master/slave cylinder. It helped a little but it was probably due to my master already going out, because i saw fluid leaking from it. so now im coming to the conclusion that something on the transmission broken (either clutch or syncros) i changed the transmission fluid with oem honda MTF but nope didnt do anything. so then i decided to drop the tranny. ( dont recommend without a lift, and a extra hand) and thats when i found my problem the clutch disk spring was completely F***ed, i put in a oem disk with a act pressure plate and it shifts like butter.
so steps i would follow to diagnose whats wrong
  • start with easy stuff-clutch/tranny fluid
  • see if theres a leak in the master(if your master cylinder gets dirty easy thats a good sign it is)
  • after that you can check to see if the plastic pieces in your shifter are broken. (Not as likely)
  • none of those solve your problem then you might have to drop your transmission. considering its a aftermarket disk that might be your problem

I guarantee 100% the line is not giving out. Braided clutch lines are a gimmick.

I'm betting on this issue. Perhaps, the clutch wasn't put back together correctly? In any event, looks like the transmission may need to come out, again.

Sorry, and good luck!

maybe an engine torque damper would help?

I've seen a bad motor mount cause hard shifts when going WOT but only at WOT. At part throttle you don't put enough torque on the motor mount to make the engine move enough to make it hard to shift even at high rpm's.

Sounds like a bad friction disc. Verify free play adjustment.
