hard time shifting to 5th gear - shortshifter installed
Hey guys,
I'm new to the forums/s2k world. i just recently bought a 03 ap1 one of my issues with it is that it currently has a shortshifter installed. it has no reverse lock out and is a pain to get into 5th. when shifting from 4th gear i would have to put the shifter far all the way far right in neutral and guess where 5th gear is at. i apply a little pressure up till i feel the 5th gear notch tell me i'm near it lol.
i have searched and saw that many are having issues with 5th gear and reverse.
my question is, can i just buy a used stock ap1 or ap2 shifter and regain my reverse lockout and simplicity of getting from 4th to 5th gear lol.

There are information and videos in the library on how to grease the shifter. Follow those to disassemble and replace missing parts. Spring #10 is probably missing and other parts may also be missing. The shift is darn short to start with so a short shifter seems unnecessary. New replacement parts can get expensive so surplus parts should be investigated. Just the spring is less than $4 new. Try to get it at a local dealer as shipping will be more than the part if you order on-line.
