hardtop is loose!
 

I have a OEM hardtop and i did the install myself.
when the latches latch they don't have that tight secure feel like my soft top does.
I feel like i need to scoot the hardtop back a bit to make it more secure?


also I can't seem to find where to plug my defroster clip into, the only open one i see doesn't match up.


any help out there?

The wiring has to be added for the defroster, it depends on what year car what wiring is used.

The side panels on the top need to be removed and the rear latches adjusted to the car.

i have that issue aswell. So the Catchers need to be adjusted or the latches themselves on the hardtop?

how do they get adjusted?

as for the wiring, it depends what yr harness you have. u may have to purchase the correct one, for an AP2 it has to be a Y looking harness that connects to the HT wire and to the harness behind that vent looking thing behind the seat..

Harness can be purchased thru Honda for like $30.00

Do you have the original strikers (the part that the front latch hooks into).
I dont know your model year, but on some of the earlier ones, like my MY00 you have to get the new hardtop strikers.

When i did mine i looked at the new strikers and i was like that wont make any difference, so ill save myself the time.

Well after the top rattled around for a few days, i felt unsecure and i changed the strikers. The newer ones are a little thicker, and it was night and day different. No more rattles.

i have an 07... does that make a difference?

you don't remove the panels from the hardtop....you make adjustments to the brackets beneath the panels directly behind the doors...

Wow, lots of misinformation.

So first of all, when you have the latches that goes onto the car installed and the strickers updated to the 02+ MY ones, then the car is good. Onto the top. I tried a quick search of the instructions, but couldn't find it. This is what I recall from memory.

On the hardtop, there are plastic panels that cover the spiked shaft that goes into the car. The spiked shaft is held on by 3 plugs. You just pull off the plastic panels. The plugs are like the ones holding down your door sills. Once the panles are off, loosen the 3 nuts holding the spiked shaft down. Repeat for other side. Now make sure your car is on the level parking spot. Now with 2 or 3 folks, put the top onto your car. Latch the front latches, then the back ones, making sure of course, that the spiked shaft made it down the hole. Now hop in and tighten the 3 bolts on each side. Take off the top and pop back on the plastic panels.

The front latch is still not "tight" like the softtop, I think because the softop is elastic and wants to pull back whereas the hardtop is just sitting there. What I also think is that when you first do the steps above, it'd be batter to park facing downhill because you want the front of the hardtop to be as close to the windshield as possible because the back would never leak, but the front would. But I don't think you need to physically apply force to squoosh the hardtop close to the windshield.

This is noted somewhere in a real Honda document, I just cannot find it.
