Head Gasket?

Ive been having some serious issues with my cooling system, basically is sucking air into the cooling system.

Both block tester and cooling pressure tester was showing a leak only when hot. So assumed it was the head gasket. (after changing rad, rad hoses, intake mani gasket.)

So I've bit the bullet and removed the head, and TBH the gasket doesn't look bad, and can't see any real signs of leak.

Also, i forgot to set the crank to TDC before removing, is the TDC point when cylinder 1 has the piston fully up? pretty much like it is in the pic?

What do you guys think?

Do you know if your heater/heater hoses have a pinhole leak? If it isn't leaking through the gasket, and you changed all those things it kind of narrows it down. I would have done a compression test before removing the head.

Gasket looks no good between 1,2,3.

THE REAL DEAL. 11-13-2015 02:55 PM

you should really diagnose the problem before stripping it down most garages do a liquid test for combustion leak they would have told you with in half an hour. its not expensive at all last time i had mine don it wasnt the head gasket water pump blades head come of. you cant really tell like this best thing to do know is just get the head pressure tested while is off they will tell you if the valves are sitting all good and not losing compression and get it checked that its not warped if its gone through excessive over heating. then you know its good to go back with a new head gasket.

Thanks, no the heater hoses are all good.

However i was just cleaning down the block surface ready for re-installation, and I've got a load a chips on the deck?

Any ideas what caused this?

How do i go about fixing this?

My WAG is some electrolysis between the metals in the head and the gasket. Were you using OEM Honda coolant? OEM head gasket?
