Default Help. Can't find how to PULL CEL code.

I've tried searching.. It did me no good. I have a CEL and I need to pull it out, but I'm not sure if it's the same as on the Prelude, where I can pull the cover off on the passenger left side and stick a paper clip in there.

After I pull the code, which page of the HELMs show what the codes mean?

Thanks in advance.

go to autozone or pepboys. they'll pull it for you. the s has obdII. your prelude is obdI. obdII needs a computer to pull the codes. the check engine light doesnt blink for obdII as it does in obdI.

My 01 Prelude was also OBDII, but I was able to use a paperclip to "jump it" and read the code.

I'm not so sure that "blink codes" are exactly the same (numerically) as codes retrieved with a scanner. In any case, the DTCs in the Helm can be found by looking at the beginning of the index at the back.

ps. I see you've found Modifry's site. That'll tell you what the blink codes mean.

Thanks. I found the answer.

In case anyone else was wondering, here is the link.

http://www.modifry.com/freebies/old/dtc/index.htm

Basically, to cut a long story short..
Find where the OBDII scanner plug-in spot is and stick a paper clip into the upper left hand corner hole. CEL should start blinking.
One long blink = 10.
One short blink = 1.

Add it all up.

Man, I think those PINs from Modifry are labeled wrong. It's PINs 4 and 9 on the OBDII port.

I'm not going by that site alone, I have cables that contradict Modifry's labeling scheme as well.

OBDII pinout is the same.

EDIT: Tried to contact Modifry once to ask him, but I might have forgot the "I" in his screen name.
EDIT: Still can't PM him.

Keep me updated when you figure it out.

Thanks!

I resetted the code because I couldn't pull it out the first time. I'll definitely pull the code next time it pops up.

What is it with people on this site who KNOW that a CEL is bad but still clear it before getting the code?

You guys do understand that by clearing the code, you run the risk of taking something that could be a simple fix and turning it into something major? IE misfire in cylinder 4 that could have been fixed by pulling a plug, but you clear the code instead, and then the plug breaks apart and destroys the cylinder. Or you find out that your timing chain slipped and is no longer in sync, and eventually snaps, or your pistons crash into your valves.

You can buy a code reader for 100 bucks or less. Its a good thing to have!
