Default Help with diagnosing rattling/ticking sound?

My car developed the rattling/ticking sound about 2/3 years ago and although I have covered about 10,000 miles in that time I am worried whether there is anything considerably wrong with the engine. My AP1 1999 has covered 115,000 miles, I have recently changed the oil and the noise is still there after the engine gets warm at tick over. Any thoughts/ideas guys?

I have added a video to YouTube ... here is the link: https://youtu.be/rqDgL11V38k

Looking
forward to hearing your opinions .... Happy New Year!

Sounds like your TCT, do a search it's an easy fix.

That seems to be the classic "playing card in the bicycle wheel spokes" sound which is a loose timing chain

Fear not, a replacement timing chain tensioner (TCT) is a 15 minute job with a 10mm wrench and an Allen wrench. Personally recommend the Billman Gen-X unit. I changed mine as prevent maintenance still in dress slacks and shirt and didn't get dirty.

Many thanks, do I need to change the timing chain as well? Would rather not if I didn't need to. I have heard they normally outlast the car!?

No need to change timing chain. That would be a very labor intensive task, and totally unnecessary.

Does the speed increase with revs? I would agree with above with TCT, it should increase speed with revs.

Definitely the TCT, surprised you drove 10k miles with that sound

DIY LINK: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-un...repair-808383/ you can also find a ton of youtube videos on it if that is what you fancy.

Many people recommend to not use the OEM because it is prone to just fail again over time. Nost recommended around here
