Default High idle at cold start?

My car idles @ 2k when cold start, but when warmed up it goes back down to .9-1k. Is that normal?

yep. normal.
this feature is not only due to the fact that the car needs more fuel to stay running when cold, but due to our air quality standards, more airflow helps to ignite the catalytic converter sooner. (its like a little oven that burns off any unburnt fuel). so yeah, dont worry. im a picky person, about engine internals, and i wont drive my car till it has idled down below 1500 rpm. gives the parts time to warm up, and the controls to come *online*. later dave

Ummm.. afaik, the engine internals and catalytic convertor will warm up much faster if you idle the car 15-30 seconds and slowly drive it, than if you just sit there and idle. Never mind the oil contamination and environment pollution.

yeah, if you watch it, it prob takes about 30-40 seconds to come down off fast idle, to 1500. im usually drivin in less than 1 full minute, id guess.
