Default HKS Hi Power Dual + Test Pipe!

Hey guys, I’m pretty new to these forums as I just recently purchased my 07 Laguna blue s2k last week! The previous owner had a Fujitsubo RM01a exhaust on it which sounds fairly good however not loud enough for my liking (I’m coming off of an 08 Mugen Si with skunk2 header + exhaust so I’m used to loud cars and enjoy them). I don’t plan on going nearly as loud with the s2k and I fell in love with the HKS Hi Power Dual exhaust from video clips I’ve seen. I realize it’s not all the loud of an exhaust and doesn’t offer many gains, if any, but its got a great tone and is affordable. Passing emissions really is no issue for me so to make up for the lack of “loudness” that I like as well as the lack of power that this exhaust adds, I plan to order and install a test pipe as well. I’m not very technically/mechanically advanced so I’m not sure what size test pipe would be best for this exhaust. When I say “best” I mean which would be better for producing stronger gains and minimal rasp that can typically occur when a test pipe is added. I understand that this is a 60mm exhaust and typically the bigger the diameter, the more flow, and thus the higher the gains; wiith that mindset, I’d think a 70mm test pipe would be the better option. But then I’ve also heard that it’s always best to keep piping as close to the same size as possibly for maximal air flow and sound quality; with this mindset I’d think a 63mm test pipe would be the better option. I would also like to ask for opinions/advice on what test pipe I should get, I’ve read lots of places that the Berk test pipe is the way to go however most of the video clips I’ve watched had Invidia’s test pipe. Any input will be greatly appreciated!!

With your existing system a 70mm diameter pipe may reduce power.

I'm no expert (but that won't stop me from commenting ): the convincing information I've read indicates pipe diameter changes should ideally not occur and when they do should be smooth to not create pressure wave changes which will upset gas flow by messing with the harmonics. With this in mind I stuck to an approximate 60mm system from the OE header which is roughly 57mm thru a 62.5mm high flow cat (no cat delete) and into the 60mm Tanabe Medalion Turing exhaust which eventually branches into a pair of 50mm mufflers/tail pipes. Mustang dyno indicated 221HP at the rear wheels. If money is no object the Gernby tapered exhaust looks very promising.

There is confusing information regarding pipe diameters with some using outside diameters (reason unknown) rather than inside diameters. In my world pipe diameter is the ID.

Loud exhausts give the impression of more power but that doesn't always hold true.

Where are you located? I might be interested in the Fujitsubo if you're going to sell it.

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-mo...-hfc-s-842575/Read the gernby thread about exhaust and tp diameter. Long story short go 70mm. I have the hks + 70mm tp. Like it lots.

Invidia 60mm test pipe. Done. Don't go 70mm as it will be larger than your exhaust system itself thereby causing exhaust gas to collect in the TP for a brief time inhibiting quickest flow which is what you want especially after the header's exits. What you want is the fastest flow especially in the mid section of the system then it can open up to a larger diameter for the least back pressure. Since you have the opposite occurring due to its dual design and 60mm main pipe size I'd recommend the 60mm TP as the best match. This is my theory and I hope I don't get shot down for it but I welcome corrections if any exist
